Punjab Governor flags off the first of 40 Eicher electric buses of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking

June 28, 2022, Chandigarh: Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, the honorable Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, flagged off the first of 40 fully-built Eicher Skyline Pro E electric bus, from Punjab Raj Bhawan. The event was also graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Smt. Kirron Kher,Member of Parliament; Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS- Advisor to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh; Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav (IAS), Transport Secretary, Chandigarh Administration; and Sh. Pradhuman Singh (HCS), Director Transport, UT, Chandigarh. With this initiative, VE Commercial Vehicles Limited, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited, will support the state’s vision of building a greener and sustainable state by supplying 40 units of Eicher Skyline Pro E 3012H electric buses to Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU).
VE Commercial Vehicles Limited will also provide the necessary infrastructure by creating charging stations for these electric buses. As part of this association, VECV will be managing and running the buses under Gross Cost Contract model for a period of 10 years.
Mr. Pradhuman Singh (HCS), Director Transport, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) said, “CTU is committed to improving the quality of transportation in Chandigarh. The new lot of Eicher electric buses will provide efficient, comfortable and affordable travel to the passengers of Chandigarh.”

Eicher Pro E
A perfect blend of innovative EV technology and robust built quality, Eicher Skyline Pro E will offer best in class range and a comfortable ride for the city commuters with its seating capacity of 32 passengers. Eicher Skyline Pro E bus is equipped with a direct electric driveline that is capable of instantaneous power of 235 kW along with a high torque of 3250 Nm, and with a 300 kilometer range on a single charge as certified by ARAI Test Cycle. The all-new Eicher Skyline Pro E bus is designed as per the Bus Body code, meeting UBS II Standard while also complying with all the other statutory norms. The vehicle will deliver safety, comfort, and efficiency for intra-city public transportation. The buses will be equipped with air suspension and tubeless radial tyres that ensure a comfortable ride. A host of safety features are built into the bus including robust Domex® chassis, strong body structure to accommodate the roof-mounted battery. For active safety, there are panic buttons, Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) for the batteries, fire extinguisher, and 5 digital cameras. This bus is equipped with front wheel disc brakes to reduce the braking distance, improving the safety further.
To optimize cost of ownership, Eicher is also offering superior energy efficiency, coupled with advanced technology to reduce charging time and overall maintenance cost.
To ensure an excellent driving experience, the Eicher Skyline Pro E’s cockpit is centered on the new digital Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS). The IDIS displays all vehicle vitals including battery charge status, distance to empty and saloon temperature. The vehicle comes with a fully automatic temperature control system for an enhanced travel experience.
All these features are backed by best-in-class technology offered by Eicher. The bus is equipped with industry-first integrated telematics solution ‘Eicher LIVE’ supported by the Eicher Uptime Centre. Eicher LIVE offers – location tracking, geofencing, vehicle monitoring and battery vitals.
